Spending of the tourism sector in Bahrain during the first nine months of 2022 exceeded the main targets within the sector by 7%, Tourism Minister Fatima bint Jaffer Al Sairafi said.

Participating in a session at the World Travel Market London (WTM),  Al Sairafi said that the Kingdom has recorded better than world average growth, she said.

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the tourism sector has recovered nearly 60% of pre-pandemic levels globally, while Bahrain achieved more than 80%, which confirms the commitment to the tourism sector strategy within the economic recovery plan.

The minister pointed to the Kingdom’s support for global efforts aimed at achieving sustainable tourism that ensures the continuity of benefits from the vital resource for current and future generations.

She stressed the importance of inclusiveness, and ensuring a fair benefit for all countries from the revenues achieved by tourism in terms of economic development, providing quality opportunities.

She highlighted the importance of the digital technology in the development of the tourism industry:

"Technology has changed the way we work and travel and made things simpler, safer and more efficient, but our tourism experiences are still human. People-to-people interaction and exchange of experiences are key to making tourism more enjoyable; technology can enable these things, not replace them," she said.
