Strategic partnership to boost academic

Under the generous patronage of Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the Higher Education Council and Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of HEC, University of Technology Bahrain (UTB), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with American University (AU) of Washington, DC during the AU alumni dinner at Jumeirah Gulf of Bahrain Resort & Spa in Zallaq.

UTB and AU embark on a mutually beneficial agreement in the areas of offering joint academic programmes and hosting AU programmes in UTB campus, scientific research, faculty and student exchange program, and introduction of training programs for members of the executive departments of public and private sector institutions.

Present in the signing ceremony were His Excellency Mr. Hisham Al Rayes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of UTB, and CEO of GFH Financial Group; UTB Board of Directors and Trustees; Dr. Hasan Almulla, UTB President; AU delegation headed by Dr. Ayman Omar, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at AU Kogod School of Business; Mr. David Brownstein, Deputy Chief of the Diplomatic Mission of the US Embassy in Bahrain; and other notable dignitaries and guests.

On this occasion, HE Mr. Hisham Al Rayes expressed his thanks and appreciation to Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Rana for her sponsorship of the ceremony and her continuous support of UTB, noting the great and important achievements in the higher education sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain since her appointment to office.

He also expressed his immense joy for the joint agreement between UTB and AU in Washington DC, which shows that UTB is taking rapid steps towards excellence at all levels by offering joint academic programmes with one of the best American universities worldwide.

Signing and speaking on behalf of American University, Dr. Ayman Omar, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, expressed his enthused interest in extending AU programmes to Bahrain through UTB, hence providing students practical experience in the fields of education and research, not to mention community service and expertise.

“This type of partnership is a symbol of how Bahraini-US relations continue to grow on many levels.

Dr. Hasan Almulla, UTB President, affirmed that this partnership represents a qualitative addition to the strategic development of UTB, through which joint training and academic programmes including masteral and doctoral programmes, scholarships and scientific research will be launched with AU’s global expertise.

Since its foundation in 1893, the American University has been distinguished in its storied tradition of outstanding undergraduate and graduate education with a focus on learning related to labour market skills, global leadership, and public service, in addition to high international assessment, advanced level of university faculty, ability to innovate, and creative thinking in dealing with challenges, as evidenced by the history of scholarships and academics provided by AU to students in Bahrain for decades now and more enlivened by the large presence of their alumni and guests at the ceremonial dinner.
