Crew strike hits Lufthansa flights bound for Bahrain
Bahrain services of the Germany’s biggest airline Lufthansa have been affected by the recent strike by the airline’s staff in Germany, the company confirmed yesterday.
The airline’s cabin crew union (UFO) is staging a protest following a protracted labour dispute with the airline management. The dispute revolves around the union’s demands relating to salaries and pensions. More than a hundred thousand passengers have been affected by the strike worldwide, while hundreds of flights have been cancelled.
In response to an enquiry from NOB, an airline official said flights to and from Bahrain had been affected. “Unfortunately, all intercontinental flights, including that of Frankfurt to Dammam and Bahrain and return are affected by the strike. Passengers had been duly informed. They are constantly reminded to check flight status at LH.com. Passengers can also re-book their flights free of charge, subject to ticket conditions,” she said.
“The strike has affected all Lufthansa long haul flights from/ to Frankfurt between 4.30 am and 23.00 as well as long haul flights from/ to Munich between 5 am and 23.59 and all flights from/ to Dusseldorf between 4.30 am and 23.00. Flights from Lufthansa Group airlines Lufthansa CityLine, Germanwings, Eurowings, Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and Brussels Airlines are not affected by the strike and will therefore operate as planned,” the airlines said in a statement.
“Lufthansa will do its utmost to keep the effects of the strike to a minimum and inform passengers as soon as possible. For that reason, Lufthansa requests all passengers early on to stay up-to-date by checking the flight status on LH.com,” it added.
