Proposals at Shura Council

During their regular weekly meeting yesterday, the MPs agreed to several proposals that will be referred to the Shura Council for further study.

Among the proposals, the lawmakers agreed upon the one to ban the practice of tattooing and all related activities in the country.

According to the presenters, the proposal aims at “eliminating the increasing tattooing practice among the Bahraini youth”.

MP Jamal Dawood stated: “We demand that the Government look into this issue, which is a threat to our society. The Government should show responsibility towards society.”

“Our Constitution stipulates that ours is an Islamic country and it is proven that tattoos are forbidden in Islam. It’s not a minor matter as portrayed by the local press and social media. We’re facing a cultural invasion that aims to destroy our societies morally,” Dawood explained.

On his part, MP Nabeel Al Balooshi said, “The previous Health Minister’s statements prove that tattoo craze is going out of control in Bahrain.”

MP Mohsen Al Bakry also said, “We demand that the government to look into the matter of preserving modesty in the country. We need certain regulations, which do not exist at the moment, to standardise such acts.”

The MPs also voted for constructing several schools in different governorates, in addition to a hospital that offers treatment for sports- related ailments.
