Security experts and officials from around the globe will converge in Bahrain for the Manama security dialogue that begins today.
Organised by the International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS), the Manama dialogue acts as a unique forum for government ministers, policymakers, experts, and business communities to debate the Middle East’s most pressing foreign policy, defence and security challenges.
The Dialogue at the Ritz Carlton Hotel includes bilateral meetings between ministers and officials, a keynote address & opening dinner, discussions on Changing Geopolitics of Energy, the Impact of Extra-Regional Conflicts on Middle East Security, Defence Modernisation and New Technologies, Middle East Initiatives for Regional Conflict Resolution, Security of the Global Maritime Choke Point.
Held annually since 2004 in Bahrain, the Dialogue is a central element of the Middle East’s security architecture. This year’s theme is “Rules and Competition in the Middle East”. The Dialogue, according to IISS, provides a timely opportunity to examine their effect on interests, influence and values in the Middle East and beyond at a time of significant challenges to the rules-based order.
Today, the Keynote Address will be delivered by President Ursula von der Leyen at the opening dinner. Over 19 and 20 November, ministers, heads of international organisations and chiefs of defence from Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas will present their policies for a stable, secure and prosperous Middle East. The Dialogue, which begins today ends on Sunday.
