Bahrain Works Ministry conducts study to follow austerity
A team from the Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Ministry, following the directives of Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, gathered yesterday to study ways to reduce recurrent expenses of maintenance on government buildings.
Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Essam Khalaf co-ordinated the team, which included Assistant Undersecretary for Construction Projects and Maintenance Mona Al Mutawa and a number of managers, engineers and specialists related to various projects and maintenance. The working team developed a study plan with a deadline where they addressed 33 government agencies and established 13 workshops to collect the required information in order to conduct results to reduce costs by 30 per cent. The study was aimed at finding the best solutions to increase productivity without affecting the quality of maintenance.
The Minister briefed on the achievements and obstacles faced by the team during the study as they had to collect data on restoration, maintenance and overlapping entities doing the same job as well as technical, financial and administrative matters.
He said the next phase of the study was to analyse available data and come up with solutions for the maintenance system in various government agencies.
The recommendations would be submitted to the Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Financial Affair in the upcoming weeks, he added.
