Bahrain all set for run-off elections

Voters in the 34 parliamentary and 24 municipal constituencies will cast their votes today, once again, to decide the winners of the 2022 Parliamentary and Municipal elections in constituencies where polls in the first round last week failed to produce a clear winner.
The run-off will be between the first two candidates of each constituency in which no one achieved a 50% vote.
After the first round of voting last week, six candidates got elected to parliament and seven to the municipal council. Accordingly, 80 candidates are looking forward to a decision today, of which 34 candidates are for parliament and 46 for the Municipality seats.
Voting, as in the first round, begins at 8 am and concludes at 8 pm. Bahrain citizens have already cast their votes for the run-off elections at 37 diplomatic missions abroad. Election authorities will combine both results to decide winners today.
Sixteen candidates are contesting in the second round from the Capital for the Parliamentary seats - where only Mohamed Husain Abdulla Husain Janahi from the first constituency and Zainab AbdulAmeer Khalil Ebrahim from the seventh constituency of Capital Governorate got elected in the first round.
In Muharraq, 12 candidates are battling for parliament seats and 12 for municipal seats in the second round. Winners of parliament seats there are Ahmed Salman Jabor Almusalam from the 8th constituency and Hishan Ahmed Yusuf Ahmed Alasheeri from the 6th constituency.
Fadhel Abbas Hasan Ahmed Aloud (6th constituency) and Ahmed Mohamed Abdullatif Ahmed Almuqahwi (7th constituency) won municipality seats from here. In the Northern Governorate, 22 candidates are eying Parliament seats and 18 municipality seats.
Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed Naser from the 6th constituency was the sole Parliament seat winner, as Sayed Shubbar Ebrahim Fakher Alwedai, Zaina Jasim Ali Jasim (7th constituency), and Abdulla Shareeda Khalil Ebrahim Althawadi (10th constituency) won municipal seats.
In the Southern Governorate, 18 candidates are vying in the second round for parliamentary election and 16 in the municipal election. Elected candidates in the first round are Abdulla Ahmed Ebrahim Bubeshait (7th) and Abdulla Ebrahim Abdullatif Ebrahim (3rd) in the municipality election and Ali Majed Ali Hasan Almajed AlNoaimi (7th) in the parliamentary election.
Meanwhile, Chancellor Nawaf Abdulla Hamza, yesterday said preparations are all set to hold the run-off elections, urging voters to participate effectively in the polls. The Chairman of the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission, Executive Director of the 2022 elections, said polling stations open at 08:00 am and close at 08:00 pm.
252,256 voted in first round In total, 252,256 Bahrainis cast ballots in the first round of the parliamentary and municipal elections on November 12. The turnout of 73.18% was the highest since the quadrennial elections in 2002.
The turnout among female voters was 48%, and young voters were 45.37%. Among 95 female candidates, including 73 in parliamentary elections and 22 in municipal elections, only two women secured their seats, one in the Council of Representatives and another in municipal councils. Eight parliamentary candidates and six municipal ones are competing in today’s run-off.
