The Lower Criminal Court yesterday awarded three -months in jail and a fine of BD3,000 to two Asians for running an unlicensed recruitment agency in Bahrain.
Police arrested the suspects after investigating recruitment advertisements posted on social media promising visas and jobs. Investigators found the ads as fake and meant to lure people abroad.
The suspects, LMRA officials informed Public Prosecution, were also taking money from victims claiming to be for visa processing to avail them well-paid jobs.
LMRA also said the suspects violated the provisions of Law No. 19 of 2006 regulating the labour market. Based on the evidence, Public Prosecution issued an arrest warrant and took the suspect into custody.
Prosecutors said the suspect confessed to their crimes and revealed the presence of an accomplice during interrogation. Police soon took the second suspect also into custody. The Court also ordered the deportation of the suspects after completing their jail terms.
