Sexual abuse of minor: Verdict on December 3

The verdict on a 40-year-old Quran teacher, accused of sexually abusing a six- year-old student on multiple occasions during lessons, will be announced on December 3.

The Bangladeshi defendant was put on trial after video files showing a naked Indian girl were fortuitously seen on his phone by her family.

They were initially seen by the victim’s brother who allegedly played one of the videos when he took the defendant’s phone to delete the images the latter captured without permission.

The father of the victim then forcibly took the phone from the defendant after his son told him about the file. On search, many naked pictures of the girl were found on the phone. Footages showed him kissing the child on her mouth and sexually abusing her, according to court files.

The accused was the children’s teacher for six years, and the six- year-old said that he had sexually abused her in every single class.

“I agreed with him to teach my children Quran for a monthly fee of BD30 . And I invited him to my home to take the lessons,” the father of the victim said in his statement.

“I saw him once putting her on his thigh and kissing her cheek, but I didn’t pay heed because I thought he was a good man given that he is married.

“I discovered that he was sexually abusing my daughter after my son saw a video footage on his phone showing my daughter naked. “I took his phone forcefully, and when I searched it, there were many similar footages.”

The defendant said during investigations that he ‘didn’t know why’ he filmed the child while she was naked. “It was just an idea jumped on my mind to record her without clothing,” he said.

Investigators also found nude pictures and pornography videos on the defendant’s phone also, but he denied he downloaded them. “This is a second-hand phone which I bought from a mobile shop. These videos don’t belong to me,” he claimed.
