The present Cabinet, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, will hold its last session today before submitting the resignation to His Majesty King Hamad.
His Majesty will direct HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to form a new government, which is expected to witness limited shift in the ministerial portfolios. The roles of some ministerial advisers and senior government officials are also expected to change.
HM the King issued a decree in the middle of last June to reshuffle the cabinet, empowering women as well as bringing in new and young faces. The reshuffle was the largest since 1973. The names of new Shura Council members will also be announced today.
The Kingdom yesterday witnessed the second round of elections with thousands of citizens across the nation casting their political rights to elect their parliament members and municipal councillors on Saturday.
The run-offs were held after no winner emerged in the majority of parliament and municipal council constituencies. As per the electoral rules, a candidate must obtain more than half of the votes in a constituency to be elected.
If no candidate achieves more than half the votes, the two candidates with the highest number of votes will go head-to-head in a run-off election. The voter turn-out in the first round was 73 per cent. In 2018, it was 67 per cent, the highest level since the parliamentary and municipal elections began in the Kingdom in the year 2002.
