Road worker dies after trench wall collapses in Al Lawzi

A road construction worker lost his life, while civil defence forces rescued another when a trench wall collapsed, trapping them under a pile of sand.
The mishap also caused injuries to several other workers at the site.
The incident occurred yesterday evening at a rainwater drainage project site on Street 26 in the Al-Lawzi area.
Rescue officers said the sand wall collapsed on the workers while they were working inside a hole dug at the site.
The National Ambulance team reached the scene immediately and gave necessary medical assistance to injured workers at the site.
In a statement, the Works Ministry expressed deep regret over the painful incident.
The ministry said the mishap occurred while the workers were inside a trench dug for establishing a rainwater drainage project on Street 26 in the Al-Lawzi area.
The minister offered condolences to the family members of the deceased.
Works Ministry officials said they are investigating the incident with other government agencies.
The statement said the ministry took legal measures in coordination with the Ministry of Interior.
