Bahrain celebrates the Bahraini Women’s Day today to highlight their growing contributions to nation building.
The event is marked on the first day of December of each year, reflecting the extent of appreciation and honour for women’s achievements in all sectors under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
HM the King has been promoting the welfare of Bahraini women as an essential and active partner in the comprehensive development process.
The celebration of Bahraini Women’s Day, in its fourteenth year, comes as an activation of the generous initiative launched by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, in 2008.
The theme of today’s celebration, “Read, learnt, participated”, offers a comprehensive perspective of the milestones achieved by Bahraini women. It tracks back their steady progress in the Kingdom to their solid, early beginnings.
The celebration coincides with a higher momentum of progress for Bahraini women. The number of female ministers in the Cabinet increased from one to five this year alone. In the legislative body, the number in the Representatives Council has increased by 33.33%.
