Awareness on violence against women

Manama

One out of every three women in the Gulf region suffers violence at some stage of her life either by husband or by her boyfriend or partner. The Women’s Crisis Care International (WCCI) wants create awareness on violence against women, said Mary-Justine Todd, founder and director of WCCI.

Speaking to DT News on the sidelines of an event yesterday, she said that many organisations in Bahrain were already doing a good job in safeguarding the rights of women. “The WCCI also wants to contribute its best for the same cause,” Mary-Justine Todd said.

Meanwhile, she said that the WCCI had been engaged in crisis counselling service for the victims of violence.

WCCI yesterday brought together the prominent women of Bahrain in order to create awareness on the violence faced by women. “The organisation also wants to strengthen its network in the Kingdom,” said Mary-Justine Todd.

Currently, WCCI is working on generating money and strengthening contacts with hospitals, which receive women subjected to abuse. The organisation has already a group of advocates, who would work for ensuring justice for abused victims.
