As flight prices are surging in Bahrain, it is becoming increasingly more expensive for people to travel out of the Kingdom.

Holiday seasons are busy times of the year for airports all over the world, especially around Christmas and New Year. After COVID-19, there are less frequencies of planes in the sky.

With fewer planes in the sky, there are less available seats, which is increasing demand. The combination of high demand and limited seats on flights results in high fares, according to airlines.

Speaking to The Daily Tribune, CD Singh, general manager of Bahrain International Travel, said: “Fares have been higher this year, compared to 2021, and there are two reasons to why this is happening. Firstly, there is less frequency in post-COVID flights, which means there will be less availability of seats.

“Also, after many people were not able to travel during the pandemic, passengers are desperate to travel now, and many of them will pay the price of the flights. If there is a high demand for flights, it is common to see an increase in airfares, especially during the holiday season.”

As demand is growing again to travel, airlines can increase the price. Speaking to The Daily Tribune, Suhaib Kidwai, CEO for Global Travel, said: “The increase of airfare is normal for this type of season, and it is happening every year.

Especially during the holiday season, it is common for airlines to raise their prices as they can make more money during times when flights are in demand.” “Many believe that flights are much higher than usual, but this is due to the decreased frequency in flights after the pandemic, and the increase in demand is to be expected.”

He added: “After the holiday season is finished, airfares will start to go back to regular prices, and they will not remain as high as many are seeing.” Bahrain International Airport (BIA) reported 3 million passengers during the first six months of the current year, and now expect approximately 6.5 million passengers by the end of 2022.

As BIA reported a 75% decrease in usual traffic during 2020, the influx of passengers has resulted in greater demand for airlines, allowing airlines to increase their prices as passengers are willing to pay.
