Bahrain is committed to safeguarding labour rights and promoting a safe and just working environment.

Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) CEO Nouf Abdulrahman Jamsheer affirmed the Kingdom’s dedication to promote strategic partnerships with the international community to combat trafficking in persons, including forced labour and worker exploitation.

Jamsheer was speaking as she met with officials and representatives from the Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit of the US Department of Justice, the Wage and Hour Division of the US Department of Labour, and the US Department of Health and Human Services, in Washington.

She additionally met with the Middle East Institute and its representatives in a roundtable discussion on Bahrain’s efforts in Combatting Trafficking in Persons. Jamsheer welcomed Bahrain-US collaboration in resolving forced labour and worker exploitation.

The CEO highlighted a range of programs and initiatives launched by the Kingdom to safeguard worker rights. These include the legislative tools that saw the implementation of the Wage Protection System and the establishment of the Expat Protection Centre.

Jamsheer noted that the Kingdom also intensified efforts to develop community awareness of rights and obligations through the LMRA’s Regional Centre of Excellence and Capacity Building for Combatting Trafficking in Persons in partnership with international organisations.
