The support initiatives for orphans and needy citizens in Bahrain are getting back to the pre-pandemic levels with many charity organisations and generous individuals exerting best efforts in the sector.

Bahrain’s constitution guarantees social security for Bahraini citizens to ensure a decent standard of living, housing, employment and social welfare. Speaking to The Daily Tribune, Khalil Aldailami, Chairman of The Tree of Life Social Charity Society, said: “We have established the organisation in order to provide all the facilities that the needy and orphans require.

“I believe that the use of online payment methods has been crucial because it is now simpler for people to donate money to us directly. In addition to financial gifts, people also give us clothing, toys, food, and furniture, which we then distribute to more than 600 poor families who have registered their names with our organisation.

“Of course, before the pandemic, our charitable organisation used to host a lot of events, every two to three weeks, but we were unable to do so owing to the Covid-19 outbreak, and we are now back. “To create social solidarity in accordance with societal possibilities, we offer material and in-kind aid to low-income families.

We assist students to continue their education in compliance with the relevant governmental organisations. “Between 50 and 300 orphans are frequently invited to lunch or dinner at a variety of restaurants. Additionally, we provide groceries to families each month so they can lead much healthier lives.

“We also provide free medical advice, free medication, and occasionally 50 percent off hospital checkups for families who become ill.” Speaking to The Daily Tribune, a charity worker, who does not want to be identified, said many charity organisations rely on social media to spread awareness of their campaigns.

The social media has become the most important means of communication for charity organisations when it comes to information dissemination and spreading awareness. “Many charity organisers, like us, use Facebook as it is a highly effective way to spread the message. Since our organisation is small and has a limited budget, we ask individuals on social media to assist the poor families and orphans with their basic necessities.”
