Tenth edition of Bahraini Farmers’ Market opens tomorrow at Budaiya Botanical Garden

The 10th edition of the Bahraini Farmers’ Market will begin tomorrow at Budaiya Botanical Garden, offering a treasure trove of freshly harvested produce from farms across the Kingdom.
The market, which sold 265 tons of local produce in its previous edition, acts as a direct link between local farmers and consumers.
The Daily Tribune spoke to several people to find out their opinion about this seasonal market that supports the local economy and enhances food security.
Not surprisingly, they all said in unison, “we are eagerly waiting for the market to open to enjoy some fresh produce and meet local farmers.” Besides, people are also awaiting to explore it as an opportunity to celebrate the farmers and enjoy the green sight. One of them told us: “It is an attractive spot as a large number of visitors will join from neighbouring counties to attend the activities of the market and buy Bahraini agricultural products.”
A mission with a vision
Dr Khaled Ahmed Hassan, Undersecretary of Livestock and Undersecretary of Agriculture and Marine Resources, hailed it as a mission to market local products. “We are keen to continue the path of excellence in this national event, a mission to market local agricultural products based on its commitment to support Bahraini workers in the agricultural sector.”
Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak, the Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs, had said that the market, organised annually at Botanical Gardens, will function every Saturday. Usually, the market held from December to April remain open every Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm.
Following its huge success, the government also established a permanent farmers’ market, open six days a week, Monday to Saturday, from 8 am to 3 pm in A’ali.
70,000 visitors last time
The previous edition had the participation of 43 farmers, agricultural companies and nurseries and attracted more than 70,000 visitors in about 14 weeks. The market had 83 agricultural products, ranging from locally grown leafy and fruit products, with farmers selling about 265 tons of products.
