Global Urdu-Hindi poetry session today

The Sir Syed Educational and Cultural Society is hosting an International Urdu and Hindi poetry session under the banner “Ek Shaam Farog- e-ilm Ke Naam” at 8 pm today in the Cultural Hall of National Museum Complex here. 

Noted poets Padma Shri Nida Fazli (India), Rahat Indori and Anwer Shaoor (both Pakistan) will recite their latest poems before the over 2,000 odd crowd of literature- lovers.

Indian Ambassador to Bahrain Alok Kumar Sinha will be the chief guest whereas Chairman, AJM Kooheji Group, Abdulhameed Al Kooheji and Group Director Mohamed Al Kooheji will be the guests of honour. Chairman and Managing Director, SPAC, P. Unnikrishnan and Chief Editor, DT News, Soman Baby will also grace the occasion.

Speaking to DT News, event convenor Nadeem Ahmed said that the main objective of the programme was to fulfil the literary and cultural needs of the Urdu and Hindi-speaking community in Bahrain and bring their favourite poets on stage so that they could interact with them. He said that through the event, the Sir Syed Society wanted to highlight the problem of the people who are unable to afford basic education of their kids. Those who are well-off should offer to provide facilities for the education of the poor children, he said.

Another objective of such programmes is to strengthen the literary heritage of the sub continent, he adds.

Ali Akbar, an active member of the society, told DT News that the Sir Syed Society had been conducting the annual poetry session for the past four years to promote Urdu and Hindi.

Other renowned poets attending the event include Popular Meerathi (India), Manzar Bhopali (India), Dr Sarita Sharma (India), Liaqat Ali (Pakistan), Ambereen (Pakistan), B.S. Bisht( India), Iqbal Asha (India), Moin Shadab (India), among several others. Some well-known local poets are expected to present their poetry at the event.

The Sir Syed Educational and Cultural society Bahrain is a society named after the 19th century visionary and educationist Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, also the founder of the Aligarh Muslim University.
