Indian School bus driver expelled following accident

A driver who was involved in a school bus accident injuring 11 students last Thursday has been removed from service, officials revealed.

The Indian School Bahrain executive committee member in-charge of Transport and Discipline Bhupinder Singh told NOB that the driver involved in the accident has been removed from his post following investigation into the incident.

“One of the drivers, who was involved in the accident, no longer works with the school,” he told NOB. “ We got feedback about him that he was slightly impulsive while applying brakes. It was also alleged that he was not maintaining the correct distance to be kept with the vehicle in front.”

The bus drivers are not employees of the school but staff of the transportation company from which the school has a contract to provide transportation services, Mr Singh added.

The accident occurred on November 5 near the driving school in Isa Town. Both buses involved in the accident belonged to the school’s transportation provider. According to Mr Singh’s statement then to NOB Bus No. 72 was followed by Bus No. 2. When Bus No. 72 had to apply the brakes unexpectedly when a car crossed its path, Bus No. 2 hit the other bus from behind. Details are being investigated by police. Around 10 children suffered minor injuries. One got few stitches. Thanks to the timely intervention of the paramedics, school staff and Executive Committee, the children were immediately taken to Salmaniya Hospital for first-aid and observation in an ambulance. They were all discharged on the same day itself.

According to a comment by a parent from the same school whose child travels by Bus No. 2,  “While I appreciate your (the school’s) efforts, I would request you (the school) to caution the driver of Bus no.2 which passes through Casino Garden Muharraq. This is the same bus, which had an accident last week in front of Isa Town driving school. At that time, my daughter was in this bus and still, she suffers neck pain.”

“He doesn’t care for humps and today again he started giving very sudden breaks. We don’t want our kids to suffer due to his reckless driving.”
