Every fallen serviceman is a national hero, said His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa yesterday, calling their sacrifices a “source of pride for their brethren of arms.”

“They had embodied the values of bravery and redemption, setting themselves as role models for the coming generations for patriotism,” the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces said.

“Their heroic actions,” HM King said, will always remain engraved in the national memory.

His Majesty said this as he paid tribute to fallen servicemen at Al Sakhir Palace, marking Commemoration Day, marked each year on December 17.

HM King also paid tribute to the citizens for their noble stances, cohesion and keenness to support the families of the late servicemen, proving that every martyr is the son of every Bahraini in the one-family Bahraini society.

The event was in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister.

Expressing pride in the contributions of the martyrs of duty, HM King saluted the members of the armed forces and security authorities for their unwavering keenness to undertake national tasks.

His Majesty said the families of the martyrs are as brave as the fallen servicemen, highlighting their patriotism and keenness to instil in their sons the love of the nation.

Earlier, upon arrival, HM, who was accompanied by a convoy of cavalry, was welcomed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF), Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, National Guard Commander, General HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa, and Interior Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, in addition to senior state officials, senior officers and families of late servicemen.

Artillery shots were fired in honour of the fallen servicemen as a squadron of fighter jets from the Royal Bahraini Air Force (RBAF) conducted a flypast.

Court of Cassation’s Sharia Department Chairman and Al-Fateh Mosque Imam, Shaikh Adnan bin Abdulla Al-Qattan, delivered a speech paying homage to the martyrs of duty.

Royal Protocols Chief prayed for the souls of fallen servicemen and watered a palm tree - the symbol of eternal life.
