The Arab League General Secretariat has expressed full solidarity with Bahrain in rejecting the European Parliament resolution regarding human rights in Bahrain. In a statement, the Arab League said its general secretariat has observed over the years the human rights situation in Bahrain, and recorded numerous positive developments.

It also cited Bahrain’s support for the establishment of the Arab Court for Human Rights, its ratification of the Arab Charter for Human Rights, and other positive political and human rights initiatives are among Bahrain’s developments.

The League voiced its rejection of the politicisation of rights issues and the biased position from which they are made. Such stances are aimed at launching constant attacks and criticism. It said the positions were based on inaccurate information or without taking into consideration the developments on the ground, both in Bahrain and other Arab countries.

Bahrain on Sunday voiced disappointment and concern over the inaccurate allegations contained within the resolution, which bears no resemblance to reality, and ignores the factual and verifiable information provided by the ministry.

Total rejection

Earlier, the Arab Parliament expressed its total rejection of the European Parliament’s resolution, stressing that this statement is completely untrue and has no connection with reality. In a statement, the Arab Parliament affirmed its full support for and solidarity with Bahrain in all the measures it takes to respond to this prejudiced statement that serves the political goals of some external parties, a policy that has become fully exposed by using human rights as a pretext to interfere in the affairs of states, calling on the European Parliament to respect rule of law in Bahrain.

It noted that Bahrain is fully committed to the principles of human rights and international standards, by promoting and protecting the rights and freedoms of all citizens and residents on its territories, stressing at the same time its complete rejection of interference in the affairs of Bahrain, and full respect for the Bahraini judiciary and law.

Likewise, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) denounced the resolution. Secretary General Dr Nayef Al Hajraf said that the resolution, which comes as an extension of false and inaccurate information, aims to tarnish the reputation of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

He expressed solidarity with the Kingdom and commended its full commitment to human rights principles and international standards as well as its unwavering efforts to protect rights and freedoms of all citizens and residents on its territory.
