Bahrain supports global cooperation to help Iraq

Bahrain is keen to support international cooperation and partnership in helping Iraq maintain its security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity and regain its pivotal Arab, regional and international role.

This was emphasised by Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, who was delegated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to lead Bahrain’s delegation to the second edition of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership in Amman.

His Majesty King Abdulla II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan chaired the event, which was held yesterday in King Hussein bin Talal Convention Center in the Dead Sea City. Egyptian and French presidents took part in the conference, along with Kuwaiti and Iraqi prime ministers and Ras Al Khaimah ruler.

Addressing the session, Dr Alzayani conveyed greetings from HM the King, wishing the conference success to yield positive results which would support cooperation which would benefit Iraq. Addressing the session, Dr Alzayani said: “The security and stability of the Republic of Iraq is an integral part of our Gulf and Arab national security, and a fundamental pillar of stability, peaceful coexistence, and effective economic integration in this vital and strategic region of the world.”

He expressed Bahrain’s support for Iraq to defeat terrorist groups and armed militias, prevent its terrritories from being used to threaten Arab national security, reject any external interference in its internal affairs or violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Minister called for strengthening regional cooperation and effective partnership among all countries in the region on the basis of the principle of good neighbourliness and mutual respect in accordance with the international law, to give priority to dialogue peaceful dispute settlement.

Dr Alzayani praised the tripartite cooperation mechanism between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, stressing the importance of the economic projects agreed upon. He commended the efforts between GCC countries and Iraq to implement joint development projects in the field of electrical interconnection and transportation.
