The Bahraini Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) is prosecuting two people for allegedly falsifying electricity metre readings.
The proprietor of the business hired by the EWA to record readings is the first defendant.
The second defendant was in charge of monitoring the tasks performed by other employees and is accused of actually falsifying the readings.
He used an electronic reader to allegedly falsify the dates on the metres, according to court records.
Additionally, he obtained the readings from four additional employees to fake the readings of four electric metres.
Hearings in the case have started at the High Criminal Court.
The EWA launched investigations after having doubts about a number of entries, which led to the discovery of corruption.
In order to capture the readings without physically visiting the locations to check the metres, the second defendant altered them.
