Investors in Bahrain to get more agricultural lands: Deputy PM

Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa yesterday directed the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture to immediately allot new agricultural lands for investors through the government land investment platform.

The move, Shaikh Khalid said, falls in line with efforts to ensure sustainable food security and achieve the goals of the comprehensive development march led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

“The government will continue to support Bahraini farmers to help them overcome the challenges,” said Shaikh Khalid. Shaikh added that the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, is keen to boost partnerships with the private sector to revitalise the investment movement and increase local agricultural production.

The Deputy Prime Minister was speaking during a visit to Bahraini Farmers’ Market at the Budaiya Botanical Garden.

Shaikh Khalid said the Bahrain Farmers Market initiative, now in its tenth year, is a success in highlighting local agricultural products and supporting Bahraini farmers.

“The market is also acting as a weekly meeting place for Bahraini families,” the Deputy Premier said as he met farmers and representatives of the agricultural companies.

He praised their keenness for agricultural work as a characteristic feature of the Bahraini identity.

The Deputy Premier also commended the active partnership of the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, which attracted thousands of visitors from Bahrain and beyond.

In this edition, under the slogan “Our Harvest is Bahraini”, the Farmers’ market until now, has welcomed more than 40,000 visitors since its opening earlier this month.

On display are around 31 tonnes of 72 varieties of agricultural produces brought by 62 participants.

Evening market The Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture said the market would open in the evenings during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The ministry also announced that they will allow more space in the 11th edition in 2023 to accommodate more participants.

Upon arrival at the venue, the Deputy Premier was received by the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, the Secretary General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa and senior officials.
