The Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Endurance Championship, organised by the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef) at the Bahrain International Endurance Village will kick start Saturday.

Sponsored by the Labour Fund (Tamkeen) and Ascon, the event is held based on the directives from HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) Chairman and Breef Honorary President, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, under the patronage of SCYS First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The event will feature a 160-km race for the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa International Cup race, a 120-km international race, and a 100-km local race, in addition to the local qualifying races for 80 and 40 kilometres.

On the occasion, HH Shaikh Nasser expressed appreciation for the efforts of Shaikh Khalid to boost endurance sport in Bahrain, noting that his support for stables and riders will result in a fierce competition among the participants to reach the podium.

HH Shaikh Nasser asserted that the championship has always been an important event in which jockeys compete and perform well, adding that it provides a platform to discover youth talents who will be able to represent the kingdom at various external endurance gatherings.

He indicated that last year’s edition saw strong competition among riders and stables, noting that this year’s championship will be successful, given the high level of the participants. He also welcomed all the participating jockeys and stables, wishing them success.

HH Shaikh Nasser commended the efforts exerted by Breef, led by HH Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, to provide all kinds of support for stables and jockeys, as well as put in place perfect conditions for the success of the championship.
