Around 97 delegates have flown to India for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Over 3,500 diaspora members from nearly 70 countries have registered for the threeday convention with the theme: “Diaspora: Reliable partners for India’s progress in Amrit Kaal”.
Heads of Indian community groups here had expressed their solidarity and enthusiasm for the flagship event of India, which provides a platform for overseas Indians to engage and connect.
Honouring ceremony of the winners of the most coveted PBD Awards 2023 will be on Tuesday.
President Droupadi Murmu will present the awards that recognise the exceptional contributions of the overseas Indian community towards the development of India.
It is also the highest award for Non-resident Indian and overseas citizens of India or an organisation or institution established and run by non-resident Indians, constituted by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs.
India is holding the PBD Convention in three segments, which include the inauguration today of the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in partnership with the Ministry of Youth affairs and sports.
Besides, to underline the importance of safe, legal, orderly and skilled migration, PBD will also release commemorative stamps: ‘Surakshit Jaayen and Prashikshit Jayayen’.
Indian PM Modi will then inaugurate the first-ever digital PBD Exhibition on the theme “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” to highlight the freedom fighters in India’s Independence.
Delegates also took part yesterday in a special Town Hall event organised on the occasion of India taking over the presidency of G20.
