Asian maid acquitted of stealing BD50 from sponsor

The Lower Criminal Court has acquitted an Asian domestic helper of robbing BD50 from her sponsor due to a lack of evidence.
The woman allegedly stole the money from the sponsor’s wallet, as she was caught by the CCTV cameras installed inside the house. She was charged with robbery after the sponsor filed a case against her and provided the footage captured by the cameras as proof for his claims.
However, the defendant’s lawyer argued that the case was malicious as there were disagreements between them as the woman had allegedly decided to vacate the house. The lawyer added that the woman’s criminal history was clean and never committed a robbery and this represents clear proof that she was innocent.
The Court in its ruling pointed out that it’s prescribed by law that any person shall be cleared of charges when insufficient pieces of evidence were submitted. As a result, the woman was acquitted.
