Speaker hails royal initiatives to help Bahraini citizens

Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam lauded the national initiatives launched to translate His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s directives to improve the living standards of Bahraini families.

This came as The Council of Representatives yesterday held its fifth meeting of the first session of the Sixth Legislative Term, under the chairmanship of Speaker Al Musallam. The Speaker also expressed his deepest thanks and appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for his directives to disburse an additional month of financial support for low-income families to account for global inflation.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister included developing urgent plans and procedures to stabilise prices and ensure the availability of commodities, temporary suspension of industrial land fees for food storage facilities for three months, temporary suspension of approvals and fees required by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for supermarkets to run promotional campaigns for three months, as well as increased monitoring and inspection of local market prices.

Al Musallam affirmed parliamentary support for those directives, and keenness to enhance constructive cooperation with the government in everything aimed at meeting the citizens’ needs and improving their living conditions.

Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives, Chancellor Rashid Mohammed Bu Najma, said in a statement following the session, that the Council had referred a letter addressed to it from HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister regarding a draft-law on ratifying an air transport and ports agreement between Bahrain and Oman, which is attached to Decree (3) of 2023, to the Public Utilities and Environment Committee, as well as the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee.

The session also approved the request of the committee in charge of studying the Government Action Plan (2023-2026) to extend its work for an additional six-day period, starting from January 9.

The Council also endorsed the report of the Services Committee on Decree-Law (31) of 2022 on amending some provisions of Decree-Law (6) of 1991 on the establishment of a Pension Fund for Bahraini and Non-Bahraini Officers and Personnel at the Bahrain Defence Force and Public Security Force, as well as on amending some provisions of Decree-Law (47) of 2010 on the Management and Competencies of the Pension Fund for Bahraini and Non-Bahraini Officers and Personnel at the Bahrain Defence Force and Public Security Force, established as per Decree-Law (6) of 1991.
