Two Filipinos won top awards at the Faber Castell Spectra International Art Competition 2022 held at the Indian School Bahrain’s Jashanmal Auditorium on 30 December 2022.
Rudy Perey and Karlo Papa, both from the prestigious group of Filipino Creatives Bahrain, claimed the first and second places, respectively, in the adult category.
Indian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain Piyush Srivastava was the Chief Guest of the ceremonial event. He also handed over trophies and certificates to the winners, together with the officers and volunteers of ICRF Bahrain led by ICRF Chairman Dr Babu Ramachandran.
Around 1,200 children from 25 schools and adults, who were 18 years of age and above, took part in the event. They were divided into five groups in different age categories. In describing what inspired his winning piece, Mr Perey noted that the ‘skyline pigeon’ “gives motivation to showcase the culture of the outstanding talents of Filipino artists.”
The theme was asking about life after retirement, and Mr Perey’s art conveys the beautiful Bahrain sceneries seen on an acoustic guitar. Papa’s retirement life artwork shows his desire for the under-water sceneries.
The piece presents a man who is enjoying the water with sea creatures, in particular the whale. At the event’s 2021 edition, another Filipino artist, Ms Cathy Paje, also bagged first place in the adult category.
