New sea wall for Mina Salman, Zallaq Highway rehabilitation

Works Ministry is moving ahead with plans to completely reinforce the sea wall at Mina Salman, a tender launched said. The tender says the ministry intends to complete the job in two phases, which calls for the demolition and construction of the sea wall.

Phase 1 calls for preparing the scope of the work, detailed drawings and calculating the initial estimated cost. The ministry will also prepare tender documents and tender evaluations in this phase.

Phase 2 kick starts the post-contract phase, which is the supervision of the execution of work. Mina Salman was a natural harbour prior to its establishment in 1962 and is part of the Maritime Silk Road that runs from the Chinese coast to the south via the southern tip of India to Mombasa.

From there, the route passes through the Red Sea via the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean, there to the Upper Adriatic region to the northern Italian hub of Trieste with its rail connections to Central Europe, Eastern Europe and the North Sea.

Roads in Zallaq

The ministry has also opened another tender for constructing residential access roads in Zallaq. The roads of various widths are for blocks 1056 and 5615 and will have around 7,100 meters in length.

Work includes earthwork, ductwork, asphalt paving work, paving blocks installation for footpaths, stormwater drainage work, road signs & markings installation, street lighting and sanitary work with lift station installation.

Qualified contractors should have Grade AA in both categories for “Road Works” and “Sewerage & Drainage Works” or Grade AA in the category of “Road Works” JV with Grade AA or A in the category of “Sewerage & Drainage Work”.

Make bids before the 19th of February 2023 with a BD5,000 bond having 180 days validity.

Renovation of Shaikh Hamad Avenue

Yet another tender launched by the Works Ministry says plans are on way for improvements of Shaikh Hamad Avenue in Muharraq 211.

The tender is for creating sidewalks, parking slots, rainwater drainage networks, duct lighting, traffic signs and markings to ensure the safety and security of streets. The total length of the project is approximately 620 meters.

A valid Pre-qualification License registered with the Ministry of Works in the category of Road Works under Grades AA, A, B & C is mandatory. Bids should reach the tender board before the 15th of February 2023 with a BD4,000 bond.

Zallaq Highway rehabilitation

Works Ministry is also planning rehabilitation of the Zallaq highway from shaikh Salman to the Gulf of Bahrain Avenue on both westbound and eastbound sides.

Pavement rehabilitation works include, cold planing the existing asphalt from 5 to 50mm to make the surface rough or treatment works with TM5 asphalt mix. The job is for sections with crack defects and overlay with 40mm or 50mm BRM14 asphalt wearing course, as per the site condition, including the application of new road markings. The closing date of the tender is the 12th of February 2023. Make bids with a BD5,000 bond with 180 days validity.
