Two men arrested for bid to kill policemen
Two men reportedly plotted an attack with a firearm on December 31 last year in a bid to kill police officers, the High Criminal Court heard.
According to court documents, the duo set a tyre ablaze on a road in Sitra, and waited for police officers until they arrive to restore order. They allegedly hid behind a wall and then fired several shots at police officers, but the shots were off target.
The two men fled the scene after they ran out of bullets. The pair were nabbed later, and the firearm was in their possession.
“We took a petrol bottle that was stashed in an abandoned house, and we torched a tyre and hid,” the first defendant told prosecutors earlier. “A police patrol reached the scene, and two policemen alighted from it. We fired at them, but we missed them.”
The duo have been charged with possessing a firearm without a license and carrying out a terrorist attack.
