Bahrain condemns Beirut bomb blast
Bahrain yesterday condemned Thursday’s deadly blast that killed dozens and injured 200 in the southern parts of the Lebanese Capital, Beirut. “Foreign Affairs Ministry has condemned the terrorist bomb blast in Beirut that resulted in a number of deaths and injuries,” said the Ministry in a press statement issued here yesterday.
The Ministry offered its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished speedy recovery for those injured.
In the statement, the Ministry stressed on Bahrain’s firm stance denouncing all forms and manifestations of terrorism. The Ministry called for concerted efforts to eradicate the threat of terrorism throughout the world.
According to Lebanese authorities, at least 43 people were killed in the bomb blast and more than 200 others were wounded.
Shortly after the attack, Islamic State (IS) terrorist organisation claimed responsibility for the blasts.
In a statement that was circulated online, the group said it targeted Hezbollah militias, who were concentrated in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese Capital.
They claimed that they had planted a booby-trapped motorbike in the area, and when it blasted, a suicide bomber detonated his explosive belt in the midst of the people, who crowded around the blast site.
