No cholera outbreak in Bahrain: Health officials
Health authorities in the Kingdom yesterday reaffirmed that Bahrain was free from cholera and it’s following a comprehensive strategy to prevent the disease from sneaking in.
This comes while international health organisations and news agencies are warning of an outbreak of the disease in the Arabian Gulf region, coming from the Cholera-infected Iraq.
Organisations said the disease is progressively spreading following the recent Ashoora commemorations, especially when thousands of pilgrims from the region visited Iraq.
During the past few weeks, the Health Ministry assured the public more than one time that Bahrain is safe from the disease, announcing the detection of a couple of cases that were all treated.
The ministry also organised several meetings recently to discuss precautionary and preventive measures to tackle the neighbouring hazard.
This followed the directives of the Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to the ministry to intensify their measures to ensure the Kingdom’s citizens and residents are fully protected.
Bahrain Cholera Free
In a press statement issued yesterday, the Ministry’s Disease Control Department Head Dr. Adel Al Sayyad affirmed that “there are no new cholera cases in the Kingdom of Bahrain.”
He said, “The eight detected cases, which were persons returning from Iraq, were fully treated and recovered.”
Dr. Al Sayyad also explained that among the eight cholera cases, only two people were admitted to the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) because they suffered from chronic diseases, and were treated and discharged.
