His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa yesterday honoured the Hungarian President Katalin Novak with the “Order of Shaikh ‘Isa bin Salman Al-Khalifa- First Class” in appreciation of her efforts to enhance bilateral ties.

The honouring ceremony was in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, at the Gudaibiya Palace yesterday. On the same occasion, the Hungarian President also bestowed on HM King the “Hungarian Order of Merit, Grand Cross with Chain”- the highest state award granted to foreign heads of state.

This came during a joint meeting where HM King and the Hungarian President reviewed ways to broaden ties and discussed the latest regional and international developments. Recalling the visit HM made to Hungary three years ago, King Hamad said it provided an opportunity to learn about the legacy of Hungary and its civilisational achievements.

She also stressed the importance of preserving family relations, being the basis of her country.

Yesterday, Hungary and Bahrain also signed two memoranda of understanding to enhance economic ties. Katalin Novák, highlighting the 150,000 Hungarian citizens who live in Ukraine, stressed the need to work together to stop the war hailing HM King’s efforts to ensure world peace.

Following the meeting, HM King Hamad hosted a lunch banquet in honour of the Hungarian President and her accompanying delegation. A convoy of honour, led by Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid AlZayani, accompanied the Hungarian President.
