Switzerland’s David Edman came from a set down to win a thrilling three-setter 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 against Filipino GilbertSino Cruz to clinch the Men’s Singles title yesterday in the latest matches of the 29th GPIC Open Tennis Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Club premises in Juffair.

Edman narrowly lost out in the first set, but came back strongly in the second set and dominated the deciding third set tie-break.

In the semi-finals of the Men’s +45 Singles, fourth seed Ronald Anacin from the Philippines came from a set down to defeat India’s top seed Cassius Pereira 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 and plays compatriot and sixth seed Norman Abastillas today in the final at 6pm after he knocked out unseeded Pakistani M Thahir Thahir in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

The Men’s Super Doubles are set to start today headed by the top two seeds Hassan and Karim Abdulnabi and Abdulrahman and Ahmed Janahi and other pairs include Yousif Qaed and Rashid Obaidly, Abdul Rahman Shehab and Mohammed Abdul Latif, Bader Abdul A’al and Antonio Catito and Nader and Mohammed Abdul A’al.

Men’s +45 Doubles action starts on Wednesday with the top two seeds being Stalin Joseph and Uday Shanbhag  and Kamal and Ali Khonji and Thursday sees the Super Singles underway with the top four seeds being Yousif Qaed, Karim Redha, Lars Klaverstijn and Hassan Redha.

Matches start each day from 6pm except Friday’s when none are scheduled.
