Investigations into social media statements and videos that violate the fundamentals of Islam and blaspheme prophets have concluded, revealed Bahrain's Cybercrime Prosecution.

Individuals responsible for the posts have been referred to the Lower Criminal Court, where they will stand trial on February 21.

The Public Prosecution received two reports from the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Interior's Cybercrime Directorate indicating that three members of a society in Bahrain had posted several remarks and broadcast a series of episodes dealing with Quranic miracles, stories of the prophets, and the Prophet's biography.

According to the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, the suspects discussed Quranic miracles, prophetic accounts, and the Prophet's biography, and exchanged thoughts on them in a way that prejudiced the foundations and principles of the Islamic faith.

The Public Prosecution began its investigation by obtaining social media comments and recordings, evaluating and analyzing followers' comments, and questioning the suspects.

Investigations substantiated the defendants' claims, as they were doubtful when reading and interpreting holy Quran verses, prophetic accounts, and Quranic miracles, thereby weakening the fundamentals of the Islamic faith, on which all Muslims and sects agree.

In this regard, the Public Prosecution stated that freedom of expression and academic research are guaranteed to all under the Constitution and the law and that everyone has the right to express and publish their opinions verbally, in writing, or otherwise, as long as the foundations of Islam are not prejudiced.

Any action or opinion that goes beyond these boundaries violates the freedom to express oneself and its standards, necessitating the prosecution of violators as per the law, according to the Public Prosecution.
