Two men arrested for drug smuggling in Bahrain
Two Pakistani men have been ordered to be remanded in police custody after they were caught in connection with a drug smuggling case.
The first defendant was arrested at the Bahrain International Airport with 1 kg of heroin that was stashed in his handbag.
The other man was nabbed while he was receiving the drugs from the first defendant.
In a sting operation, the first defendant helped the anti-drug squad to arrest the second man.
“A man in Pakistan gave me the bag and requested me to take it with me to Bahrain. He promised to give me 500,000 Pakistani rupees (around 1800 Bahraini dinars),” the first defendant told prosecutors earlier. “He told me a man (the second defendant) would contact me when I reach Bahrain.”
When the second man contacted the first defendant over phone and enquired about the drugs, he, as per the direction of the detectives, asked him to come and receive the drugs.
The anti-drug squad arrested him when he received the drugs from the first defendant. The second defendant’s saliva was found to be having traces of hashish.
