The building contractors here will be required soon to sign an inspection form to ensure the usage of approved materials in electrical installation works, said top Electricity and Water Authority officials yesterday.

The decision came during a meeting of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, which reviewed the annual report of the Bureau of Financial and Administrative Control for 2021-2022.

The report highlighted concerns regarding the inspection of new electrical installations, incompatibility of water flow rates with approved levels, as well as control over sanitary wares available in the local markets.

In response, EWA officials confirmed that they are working to expedite the approval and implementation of a new ‘sanitary ware regulation’ in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

This regulation will help control oversight of the tools to ensure compliance with the water supply system’s rates stipulated in Article (80) of Resolution No. (1) of 2004.

The new regulation will support the goal of water rationalisation and align with the direction towards the sustainability of water resources. The meeting was chaired by MP Muhammad Salman Al-Ahmad and attended by high-ranking officials, including Ibrahim Abdullah Al-Kaabi, Executive Vice President for Planning and Projects, Ali Ashour, Executive Vice President for Financial Resources and Services, and other distinguished personnel.

The Financial and Economic Affairs Committee comprises members including Vice-Chairman Muhammad Muhammad Al-Rifai, Eman Hassan Shuwaiter, Ahmed Sabah Al-Salloum, Basema Abdul Karim Mubarak, Zainab Abdul-Amir Khalil, Abdullah Hassan Al-Dhaen, and Hassan Ebrahim Hassan.
