An Air India Express flight cabin crew was arrested for allegedly smuggling over 1.4 kg of gold from Bahrain through Cochin International Airport in the south Indian state of Kerala, official sources said.
The suspect, identified as Shafi, a native of Wayanad, also in Kerala, was apprehended by the Indian Customs, who recovered the gold that was wrapped around his hands. Air India Express said the arrested crew has been suspended with immediate effect.
The airline reiterated its “zero tolerance” policy towards such behaviour and pledged to take “stern action,” including termination of service, following receipt of the investigative report. Further interrogation is underway.
