Camping season gains momentum

Sakhir area has started attracting campers in big numbers as pleasant weather returned to the Kingdom.

Though Bahrain’s 2015- 16 camping season officially started on October 22, it took a couple of weeks to begin the camping activities in the Kingdom as the temperature came down only in the second week of November.

But events and marketing specialist Rashid Riaz said that the camping season started little earlier this time, compared to last year. According to him, the temperature began dipping well in advance, pulling a huge crowd towards outdoor activities.

He opined that this year’s camping season would be a vibrant one due to various reasons. The major reason is, long weekend in the next month. In December, National Day holidays are followed by weekends, making it convenient for people to remain away from the hustle- bustle of city life for a longer period. Therefore, people have been eagerly waiting for next month, Rashid Riaz said.

Currently, one can notice a lot of people enjoying outdoor parties in Awali area, especially during weekends. People usually come here with their family members and enjoy barbecue parties amid cool breeze. Another camping organiser Mohseen Talal said that preparations were in full swing in Sakhir area to put up tents and launch necessary facilities at the camping area. He said that camping enthusiasts have already started visiting Sakhir to hold desert camping. By the end of this month, whole of Bahrain will start flocking towards Sakhir area, he said. The camping area will remain busy until February end, Mohseen Talal added.

The camping activities will officially come to an end on March 5. Campers Services Centre Head Mohammed Al Sisi earlier said that more than 600 people registered for camping and new camping areas have been introduced this years, while other areas were closed. The changes have been done in line with the digging processes that are taking place in Sakhir desert area. Traffic authorities have also geared up to control the menace of quad bikes in the camping areas.
