Bahrain affirms commitment to tackling climate change during IPU meeting

Bahrain's delegation to the 146th Assembly's Permanent Committee for Sustainable Development has affirmed Kingdom’s commitment to tackling climate change through both administrative and legislative measures.
During the meeting, Bahrain's representatives, Hassan Ibrahim Hassan and Munir Ibrahim Sorour, spoke about the country's parliamentary efforts towards achieving zero neutrality by 2060.
They emphasised that the issue of climate change has been a top priority for His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, who has been following it closely.
The government has been working towards reducing emissions while also promoting clean, green, and sustainable growth as a key driver of the national economy.
They also affirmed the keeness of the legislative authority to support national initiatives and using constitutional tools to create a legislative structure that supports international obligations related to the environment and climate.
Separately, during the Standing Committee on International Peace and Security meeting at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Bahrain’s efforts to tackle emerging cyber attacks and crimes were highlighted by Hala Ramzi Fayez and Dr. Bassam AlBan Muhammad.
The delegates emphasized that Bahrain has enacted several laws to safeguard electronic security and protect personal data.
They affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to protect its interests in cyberspace and highlighted the development of the National Cybersecurity Strategy to address current and escalating cyber threats.
