12 jailed for life for terror acts in Bahrain
Twelve Bahraini defendants, who formed a terrorist group, have been jailed for life. They were also stripped of their citizenship by the High Criminal Court.
Another two men, an Indian and a Bangladeshi nationals, implicated in the same case, were given one year behind bars each for abetting the 12 defendants. The duo is suspected of being used by the co-defendants to carry out radical activities across Bahrain.
The cell is said to be responsible for six bombings occurred between 2013 and 2014 in Qurayyah and Janabiya, according to court files.
It’s said that one of the Asians was working for one of the Bahraini suspects. The accused men were reportedly caught in possession of explosives and materials used in manufacturing arms and grenades.
They had allegedly lured security officers by setting tyres ablaze, under which they hid bombs prepared to explode via wireless devices.
Several policemen got injured in the attacks, which also caused damage to patrol vehicles and another car owned by a civilian, according to court files. The Indian and the Bangladeshi were said to have helped in obtaining SIM cards that were used to detonate the bombs. The Terror Crime Prosecution had earlier said that bombs were found hidden in two ma’atams (community centres).
