International gatherings such as the IPU Assembly are key to addressing global issues and challenges, said Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of Foreign Relations Committee in the Georgian Parliament.
He stated that terrorism has become a significant problem in the 21st century, affecting all nations whether it is domestic or imported. Samkharadze added that discussing the root causes of terrorism and violent extremism can lead to joint efforts to prevent such issues in the future.
He stressed: “The more you talk about it, the easier it is to solve it.” He noted that the IPU Assembly is an important contribution to preventing these challenges by providing a space for democratically elected parliamentarians from around the world to come together and discuss pressing topics, including peace and international security, cybercrime, and countering terrorism.
Samkharadze also stressed that meeting with individuals from different parts of the world can lead to a better understanding of the issues and aid in the prevention of terrorism.
