ISB festival Tarang begins
The essence of education is not only to train the mind but to bring out the latent talents in the students as well. Keeping this in mind, the Indian School Bahrain Youth Festival, with a new name ‘Tarang’, began on Saturday.
The festival is in its 12th year and its main aim is to provide a platform for the students to exhibit their talents, develop their skills in arts, literary and cultural domains to instil confidence in them.
Students of the school are placed in four Houses named after Indian scientists -Aryabhatta, C.V. Raman, J.C. Bose, and Vikram Sarabhai. According to their age group, children are divided into A, B, C and D levels as well. Students of Class 11-12 form Group A, students of Class 9-10 form Group B, students of Class 6-8 form Group C and the students of Class 4-5 form Group D.
With over 126 individual as well as group events to choose from, more than 3,000 students have registered their names for the event. Preliminary selection of students has taken place, with the help of the teachers and the finals of these events are scheduled to take place at six different venues in the school till Thursday.
The Grand Finale on Friday will end with a prize distribution ceremony. Awards will include ‘Kalaratna’ and ‘Kalashri’- Individual trophies for the best girl and boy participant respectively.
School Chairman Prince S Natarajan inaugurated the event by lighting a lamp in the presence of Vice-Chairman and Member In-charge of Activities Muhammed Iqbal, Secretary Dr Shemily P John, Member Academics Khursheed Alam, Member Sports Jayafer Madani, Principal V R Palaniswamy, Vice-Principals, Activity In-charges and House Prefects. Community leaders and well- wishers were also present during the inauguration.
