Bahrain Sustainable Development Minister meets UN Officials on sidelines of UN Water Conference

The Minister of Sustainable Development, Her Excellency Noor bint Ali AlKhulaif, met with several UN officials on the sidelines of her participation at the UN 2023 Water Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action, ‘Water for Sustainable Development’ (2018-2028), currently held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The Minister met with the Under-Secretary-General for the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), His Excellency Mr. Li Junhua, where Her Excellency reiterated the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts in monitoring the indicators to evaluate and review progress towards achieving the SDGs.
The Minister also separately met with the President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2023 session, Her Excellency Lachezara Stoeva.
The two sides discussed the Kingdom’s progress and preparations for the submission of its second Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the global SDGs, due to be presented in July 2023, during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
Minister AlKhulaif also met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Her Excellency Dr. Rola Dashti, where she highlighted the Kingdom’s exerted efforts towards the implementation of the SDGs, especially SDG 6 “Clean Water and Sanitation.”
The Minister discussed the various policies and programs being implemented by the Kingdom, to ensure the sustainable management of safe water resources for all.
His Excellency Ambassador Jamal Al Rowaiei, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN, was also in attendance.
