Drug mule gets life imprisonment
The High Criminal Court yesterday slapped a drug mule with life imprisonment. The 39-year-old was arrested carrying 63 capsules in his stomach upon his arrival at the Bahrain International Airport.
His crime came to the fore after BIA officials spotted him with symptoms of extreme fatigue and was struggling to walk. He was underwent a manual inspection, but no suspicious objects were find in his possession.
He was then taken to Salmaniya Medical Complex, where an X-ray scan revealed about halfa- kilogram of capsules in him, according to court files.
“I wanted a work permit for Bahrain, and a fellow countryman promised me to pave the way for me to obtain one once I smuggle the drugs,” the Pakistani national told prosecutors. The accused said that he was given 100 capsules to swallow, but managed to consume only 63.
