For its Ramadan project, The Rotary Club of Adliya has joined forces with Optica, Dar UCO, and Seef Properties to raise environmental awareness and collect essential eyeglasses for the elderly from local day care centres.
Seema Ahmed, a member of the Rotary Club of Adliya, told The Daily Tribune: “This project is very dear to us as Rotarians since it not only complies with the spirit of giving during Ramadan but also fulfills Rotary International’s objective to protect the environment. Rotary Club of Adliya is aiming to give back to the elderly communities in the Kingdom, as the elderly who are in need, can be a neglected part of society.”
During the holy month, charity work is not only encouraged but it is crucial for societies and individuals to give back where they can and do their part, to raise awareness to various types of projects and issues.
Optica will be collecting, filtering, cleaning, and providing eye tests and eyeglasses to elderly recipients in need. Additionally, Dar UCO, an elderly day care center, will also be coordinating with other local elderly day care centers, to provide the names of 300 eligible recipients of donated glasses.
Mariam Al Orrayed, of Optica, told The Daily Tribune: “As Optica’s core values of giving back to the community, we are delighted to collaborate with our partners to collect used eyewear and donate them to Dar UCO to help them see the world clearer.”
During the entire month of Ramadan, eyeglasses that are no longer used can be dropped off at donation boxes located in Seef Mall (Manama, Muharraq and Isa Town) and Al Liwan (Hamala). Donations of unused glasses will be the gift of clear sight for the elderly, which is greatly needed to provide the elderly with essential eyeglasses that they may not have funds to acquire which is why the public’s help is crucial.
