The High Appeals Court upheld the jail term issued against an Arab man who forced his wife into prostitution during their stay in Bahrain for what was supposed to be their honeymoon.
Earlier, the defendant was sentenced to 10 years behind bars. The 39-year-old defendant allegedly deceived her of his love by marrying her before planning to come to Bahrain to spend their honeymoon.
Shockingly, he was abetted in the crime by his friend and the latter’s son. They are said to have physically assaulted her and threatened that they would kill her, because of which she bowed to their demand to have sex with strangers.
She had done that until she managed to flee and report the case to the police. The other two also received similar punishments. However, they are still at large and were tried in absentia.
According to court files, the first defendant had officially married the victim in their home country, and he brought her to the Kingdom to spend their honeymoon. The second defendant, 49, welcomed them upon their arrival, and they both sexually assaulted her before compelling her into prostitution.
The 21-year-old student also helped them with their crimes. They reportedly locked her up in an apartment, but she managed to escape and inform the police. The 39-year-old man was arrested, but the other two fled after learning that arrest warrants were issued against them.
