A new Crisis Management Centre (CMC) for handling all aspects of ports and maritime emergencies are on the anvil in Bahrain.
The move aims at establishing steps that need to be taken by the ports to avert crises and prepare to respond when they occur.
According to the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, the center will empower Ports and Maritime Affairs to handle such scenarios effectively. Currently, PMA supervises the maritime operations of Bahrain’s ports, supporting operators and ensuring they are prepared to safely navigate the routes leading to the Kingdom’s ports and their surroundings.
The agency is also responsible for ensuring that ports and their associated facilities meet international standards. “Upon its establishment, the CMC will be responsible for following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) established by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications,” tender said.
The decision aims to facilitate compliance with current laws, regulations and standards related to Highly Critical Emergencies affecting the normal operations of Bahrain ports, private jetties and territorial waters. To participate in the tender, companies should submit their bids before the 3rd of May 2023, with a BD500 bond and BD15 tender fee.
