The High Administrative Court has intervened to register the birth of a baby girl after the eGovernment authority of Bahrain refused to register her birth, citing that her parents had not officially registered their marriage.
The latest verdict came two years after the baby girl was born at the Salmaniya Medical Complex.
The couple said that all their efforts to register the birth had gone in vain, as officials continued to turn them away each time.
After hitting a dead end, the couple filed a case with the High Administrative Court and received a resolution in their favour.
The couple’s lawyer argued that they had the right to obtain a certificate as their marriage had already been validated by the Sharia Court.
The lawyer also informed the court that, despite producing proof of marriage, the authority continued to deny either registering the child’s birth or providing her with CPR, citing contradictions in dates.
Officials argued that the baby girl was born before the marriage certificate was issued.
During the hearing, the court ordered a DNA test, which confirmed the couple’s parentage.
Accepting the test result, the court ruled in favour of the couple and ordered the eGovernment authority to register the child’s birth.
